Introduction
------------
This file provides information on how to update your copy of BBEdit 3.0
to the current (3.0.1) maintenance release. This updater can only be used
to update BBEdit 3.0.
• NOTE: Since the updater application modifies your copy of BBEdit,
you should not use it on your original BBEdit distribution disks.
This updater is for use only by owners of the commercial release of
BBEdit. It cannot be used to update a demo, beta, or freeware
version of BBEdit, or a version of BBEdit older than 3.0.
Packing List
------- ----
This updater package includes:
- “Read Me First!”: this document;
- “3.0.1 Release Notes”: information on what’s new and
improved in this version, as well as general information
that wasn’t included in the manual.
- “BBEdit 3.0 -> 3.0.1”: the application to update your copy of BBEdit.
- “Updated BBEdit Extensions”: a folder which contains updated
versions of some of the standard extensions that ship
with BBEdit.
- “BBEdit 3.0 Help”: an updated version of the file
which contains the help balloons used in BBEdit.
(If you’re running under System 6, you can ignore this
file.)
- “BBEdit Power”: an updated version of BBEdit’s native PowerPC code.
Installing the Update
---------- --- ------
0. Make sure you’re using an unmodified, non-beta, non-demo copy of
BBEdit 3.0. If necessary, make a new copy from your original
distribution disk.
1. Double-click on the “BBEdit 3.0->3.0.1” application.
2. A dialog will come up, asking you to designate the copy of BBEdit
you’d like to update. Select your old copy of BBEdit, and click
the “Update” button.
3. The updater will complete its operation automatically. The update will
take a minute or so to apply, and near the end of the process,
there will be a significant delay as the updater completes its
work. This delay is normal, and there is no cause for alarm.
When the updater has finished running, your old version of
BBEdit will be named "Old BBEdit". Drag this file to the Trash,
and empty the trash.
4. Drag the contents of the “Updated BBEdit Extensions” folder
into your BBEdit Extensions folder, if you have one. If you’re
not using any extensions, you can skip this step.
5. If you’re using a Power Macintosh, replace the “BBEdit Power”
file with the updated version from this update package. (The
BBEdit Power file should reside in the same folder as the BBEdit
application.)
6. Read the “3.0.1 Release Notes” for information on what’s new and
improved in this maintenance version.
If you have difficulty installing the update, or would like a floppy
disk that contains this updater, contact us for information
or assistance at one of the addresses below.
Thanks for your continued support of BBEdit.
